Privacy in your
Chrome companion.

Publication research

The public catalogue is available without an account. Search and filters run in your companion. We do not collect your general browsing history or read pages in the background.

Research notes

Only when you select text and choose “Save selection to NewsPass” do we store that text and the source URL locally in this Chrome profile. The source query string and fragment are removed. Notes are not sent to Sitetrail or Google automatically. You can edit or delete them in Research Notes. Copying notes puts the selected material on your system clipboard; pasting it into Sitetrail is your choice. Local notes are not an encrypted vault and are removed when you uninstall the extension.

Connecting your account

The optional read-only OAuth connection lets Sitetrail provide your existing account label, plan, credits, article history, status, customer-facing editorial feedback and result links. The extension cannot submit articles, spend credits or change billing. Sign-in and consent occur on Sitetrail and its NewsPass connection service. The companion stores a rotating connection-renewal credential locally and a short-lived access token in browser-session storage, restricted to trusted extension contexts. Treat a shared or compromised browser profile as a security risk.

Your controls

Use Disconnect in My Articles to revoke the grant and remove its local credential. You can also revoke this specific connection through Sitetrail's AI Connections account page. Disconnecting or uninstalling does not cancel your subscription or delete website articles. Uninstall may not notify the server; use Disconnect first or revoke on Sitetrail.

Services and information handling

The companion uses Sitetrail's WordPress account services and Cloudflare-hosted NewsPass services for public catalogue delivery and authenticated account reading. Writing, document import, image uploads, article review, archives and fulfilment occur separately through the existing Sitetrail website workflow. Existing account/content retention and deletion rules apply to that work. Hosting providers may process necessary security/operational request metadata. We do not include note text, article content or credentials in diagnostic logs.

Acquisition measurement

Links you deliberately open to Sitetrail's plans or dashboard may carry “chrome_extension” source parameters so Sitetrail can understand referrals through its existing website measurement. This version adds no third-party analytics SDK, advertising pixels, fingerprinting or background behavioral tracking. Chrome Web Store aggregate statistics may be used to assess the listing.

Contact and policies

Contact support@sitetrail.com for access, privacy or deletion requests. Read Sitetrail's privacy policy and the existing NewsPass AI-connection supplement for server-side processing. This companion does not sell personal data or use it for unrelated advertising or creditworthiness. Its handling of user data follows the Chrome Web Store Limited Use requirements.
